Couples Therapy & Marriage Counseling

What Is Couples Therapy & Marriage Counseling?
Couples therapy is a collaborative space for understanding and improving the patterns that shape your relationship. Rather than deciding who is at fault, therapy helps you both notice how communication, conflict, attachment, trust, intimacy and past experiences affect your relationship.
Couples work can also be supported by individual therapy for one or both partners when it would be helpful or clinically appropriate. These forms of care can complement each other, creating space for personal healing alongside the shared work of strengthening the relationship.
Our Approach to Couples Therapy & Marriage Counseling
A Connected Support Team
At Mindful Living Group, couples therapy is held within a cooperative model of care. Your therapist brings their own clinical expertise while being supported by a broader team that shares a commitment to trauma-informed, relational and whole-person care. When additional support is appropriate, we can help coordinate care across services so the relationship is not treated in isolation from the rest of your lives.
The Relationship and the People Within It
We make room for each partner's experience, history, needs and perspective without reducing the work to who is right or wrong. At the same time, we pay close attention to the patterns that emerge between each couple: how conflict escalates, how connection is established or avoided and what helps each person feel safe within the relationship.
Trauma-Informed and Culturally Sensitive
Our providers understand that relationships are shaped by attachment, family systems, culture, identity, spirituality, past relationships, loss and trauma. We approach these influences with care, creating space for the histories each partner brings while supporting the relationship you are building together now.
Personalized Treatment
Mindful Living Group providers draw from evidence-based and evidence-informed approaches and modalities. We individualize care the work to your relationship's needs, whether the focus is communication, trust repair, intimacy, parenting, life transition, discernment or healing after shared and individual trauma.
Support Beyond the Couple's Room
For some clients, couples therapy works best alongside individual therapy, psychiatric care, trauma treatment or other services we provide. When care is coordinated within the practice, our team can help create a more connected plan that supports both individual wellbeing and the health of the relationship.
Common Challenges We Help Couples Navigate
Communication Breakdowns
You may struggle to talk about important things without the conversation turning into an argument, shutting down or going nowhere.
Ongoing Conflict
The same disagreements keep coming up and you are both stuck in patterns that leave you feeling frustrated, defensive, unheard or alone.
Broken Trust
Infidelity, secrecy, dishonesty, or another betrayal may have changed the relationship. You may feel unsure whether trust can be rebuilt.
Emotional Distance
You may feel more like roommates, co-parents or logistical partners than a couple. Connection, affection and time together may have gradually become harder to find.
Intimacy or Sexual Concerns
Physical intimacy, emotional closeness, desire or sex may feel difficult to talk about, mismatched, absent or affected by hurt and disconnection.
Parenting and Family Stress
Differences in parenting, pressure from extended family or challenging family dynamics may be creating tension between you.
Stress and Major Life Changes
Work demands, financial strain, health concerns, grief, relocation, new parenthood, retirement or other transitions may be putting pressure on the relationship.
Uncertainty About the Future
One or both of you may be questioning whether to stay in the relationship and want a supported space to gain clarity about the future.

- Has something happened between you that neither of you knows how to move past?
- Do you feel more like people managing a household together than partners?
- Are you going through something big, and finding it is pulling you apart rather than together?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, our couples and family therapists are ready to help you.
