Getting Started and Access

Are you currently accepting new patients?

Yes, Mindful Living Group is currently accepting new patients across our Maui and Oʻahu offices, in Kihei, Makawao, and Mililani, and through telehealth statewide across Hawaiʻi.

How do I become a client at Mindful Living Group?

You can begin by completing our intake form to schedule a free 15-minute consultation, or by calling (808) 206-9371 or texting (321) 384-9714. A member of our care coordination team will be in touch to guide you through the next steps and help you find the right provider for your needs.

Do you accept walk-ins?

We do not accept walk-ins. All appointments are arranged in advance so that we can give each person the attention and preparation their care deserves. You can request an appointment through our intake form or by calling (808) 206-9371 or texting (321) 384-9714.

How soon can I get an appointment?

We work to bring new clients in as soon as we can. Most people hear back from our care coordination team and have their first appointment scheduled within two weeks, though this can vary depending on the provider and your needs.

What happens after I submit the intake form?

After you submit the intake form, a member of our care coordination team will call you to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. That conversation helps us understand what you are looking for and match you with the provider best suited to support you.

Do I need a referral to be seen?

In most cases you do not need a referral to begin care with us, and you are welcome to reach out directly through our intake form or by calling (808) 206-9371 or texting (321) 384-9714. Some insurance plans may require a referral for certain services, so it is worth checking with your insurer, and our team is happy to help you understand what your plan needs.

Locations, Telehealth and Hours

Where are your offices located?

We have offices on two islands. On Maui, you can find us in Kihei and Makawao, and on Oʻahu we are located in Mililani. We also offer telehealth across the Hawaiian Islands, so care is available whether or not you live near one of our offices.

Do you have a therapist or counselor near me on Maui or Oʻahu?

Our Maui therapists and counselors see clients at our Kihei and Makawao offices, and our Oʻahu providers are based in Mililani. If there is no office close to you, our telehealth services connect you with a provider from anywhere in Hawaiʻi, so you can receive care without travelling far.

Do you offer telehealth or online appointments?

Yes, we offer telehealth and online therapy and psychiatry appointments throughout the Hawaiian Islands. This means you can connect with our providers from wherever you are, including more remote areas of Hawaiʻi where in-person mental health care can be difficult to reach. Nearly all of our providers offer telehealth, so most kinds of care can be supported this way. For psychiatric services, an in-person initial appointment is required, and depending on the type of medication prescribed, you may be asked to attend at least one in-person visit per year.

Can I see a provider by telehealth if I live on a different island?

Yes. Our telehealth services are available across the Hawaiian Islands, so you can work with one of our providers from any island, including from rural or remote communities where local options may be limited. For psychiatric services, an in-person initial appointment is required, and depending on the type of medication prescribed, you may be asked to attend more than one in-person visit per year.

Can I receive telehealth if I am outside Hawaiʻi?

No. Because our providers are licensed to practice in Hawaiʻi, we are only able to offer telehealth to clients who are physically located within the state at the time of their appointment.

What are your hours?

Our phone line is open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm, and our team is glad to help you during those hours by phone or text. Appointment times vary by provider, with some offering sessions in the evenings or on weekends, so the best way to find a time that works for you is to reach out and we will match you with a provider whose schedule fits yours. We observe major holidays, including New Year's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day, with calls returned the next business day.

Insurance, Payment and Fees

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept insurance. The specific plans we work with vary by provider and by service, so it is worth checking the details for the provider or service you are interested in.

Which insurance plans do you accept?

We accept a range of insurance plans, and the plans accepted vary by provider and by service. You can see which plans apply on our individual service and provider pages, and you are always welcome to call (808) 206-9371 or text (321) 384-9714 so our team can help verify your coverage.

Do you accept Medicare, Medicaid, or Med-QUEST?

We are no longer able to accept Medicare directly, but some of our providers are able to see Medicare clients through private pay. Coverage differs by provider, so the most reliable way to confirm whether your specific plan is accepted is to call our team at (808) 206-9371 or text (321) 384-9714. We are always glad to help you check your coverage before your first appointment.

What if my insurance is not on your list?

If your plan is not one we work with directly, you have options. You can choose to pay privately, or you can request a superbill, which is an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Do you offer cash-pay or self-pay options?

Yes, we offer both insurance-based and cash-pay options, so you can choose the path that works best for your circumstances.

What does treatment cost?

Fees vary depending on the provider and the type of care you are seeking. Because of this, the best way to get accurate, current pricing is to call (808) 206-9371 or text (321) 384-9714, and we will walk you through the rates that apply to your situation. We offer both insurance-based and cash-pay options to help make care accessible.

Do you offer sliding scale or financial assistance?

Depending on availability and eligibility, some financial support may be available to help reduce the cost of care. We encourage you to call (808) 206-9371 or text (321) 384-9714 to ask what options may apply to you.

Do you accept workers' compensation?

We are not able to accept workers' compensation claims at this time. If you are seeking care under a workers' compensation claim, we are happy to point you toward other resources where possible, and you are always welcome to reach out to our team at (808) 206-9371 with any questions.

Do you work with veterans, and do you accept VA coverage?

Yes, we welcome veterans, and one of our providers is able to see veterans through the VA Community Care Network, the program that allows eligible veterans to receive care from community providers outside a VA facility. Care through this program usually begins with a referral or authorization from the VA, so the best first step is to call us at (808) 206-9371 or text (321) 384-9714. We are glad to help you understand whether your VA coverage applies and how to get started.

Is GLP-1 or semaglutide treatment covered by insurance?

Coverage for GLP-1 and semaglutide treatment varies by insurance plan and individual circumstances. We recommend calling our team at (808) 206-9371 or texting (321) 384-9714 so we can help you understand your options before your first appointment.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask that you provide as much advance notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Short-notice cancellations and missed appointments may be subject to a fee.

These include, and are not limited to, psychotherapy and counseling, trauma therapy, couples therapy and marriage counseling, EMDR and 5-AMDR therapy, accelerated resolution therapy, psychiatric services and medication management, ketamine-assisted therapy, semaglutide and metabolic health for weight management, group therapy, earth-based and cultural healing and plant medicine, psychospiritual therapy and spiritual counseling, mindfulness, and leadership and corporate wellness.

What concerns or conditions do you work with?

Our providers support people across Maui and Oʻahu through a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, relationship and family challenges, stress, life transitions, and questions of meaning and spiritual wellbeing. Because our team holds many different specialties, our care coordination team can help match you with a provider whose experience fits what you are working through.

What ages do you work with?

Our providers work with people across a range of ages and life stages, and the specific ages each provider serves can vary. The best way to find the right fit is to reach out through our intake form or by calling (808) 206-9371 or texting (321) 384-9714, and our care coordination team will help match you with a provider suited to your needs.

Do you offer couples and family therapy?

Yes, several of our providers offer couples therapy, marriage counseling, and family therapy, and those who do are deeply experienced in relational work. Our team can help connect you with the right provider for your situation.

What is trauma-informed care?

Trauma-informed care is an approach that recognizes how common trauma is and how deeply it can shape a person's mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Rather than asking what is wrong with someone, it asks what has happened to them, and it prioritizes safety, trust, choice, and collaboration in every interaction. At Mindful Living Group, this approach is woven through every service and every relationship, so that care feels steady and respectful at each step.

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is an evidence-based therapy that helps people process and recover from distressing memories and trauma. Through guided attention, often using gentle back-and-forth eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR supports the brain in reprocessing difficult experiences so they hold less emotional charge over time. It is widely used for PTSD, anxiety, and the lingering effects of trauma, and several of our providers on Maui and Oʻahu offer it as part of their work. Click here to learn more about EMDR at Mindful Living Group.

What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy, often shortened to ART, is an evidence-based approach that draws on eye movements to help people move through trauma, anxiety, and difficult memories, often within a relatively short number of sessions. It shares some common ground with EMDR while following its own structured process, and it can be a good option for people seeking focused relief. Our care coordination team can help you understand whether it may be a fit for what you are working through. Click here to learn more about Accelerated Resolution Therapy at Mindful Living Group.

What is 5-AMDR therapy?

5-AMDR is one of the trauma-focused, evidence-informed approaches our providers offer to help people process and recover from distressing experiences. As with the other modalities we provide, the best way to understand whether it suits your needs is to speak with our care coordination team, who can match you with a provider experienced in this work. Click here to learn more about 5-AMDR at Mindful Living Group

What are emerging therapies?

Emerging therapies are evidence-informed approaches that are still relatively new, supported by a body of research that has grown meaningfully in recent years. At Mindful Living Group, these include offerings such as ketamine-assisted therapy, semaglutide and GLP-1 metabolic support, and psychospiritual approaches to care. We hold these alongside more established methods, grounded in clinical training and a careful, considered approach to each person's wellbeing.

What is ketamine-assisted therapy?

Ketamine-assisted therapy is an off-label, emerging, evidence-informed approach that pairs the supervised use of ketamine with psychotherapy to support people working through conditions such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. The medication can help create a sense of openness that makes therapeutic work more accessible, and our providers offer this care within a structured, supportive, and closely held setting.

Do you offer group therapy?

Yes, we offer group therapy. Because our groups and offerings change over time, the best way to stay up to date on what is currently available is to visit the events page on our website.

Do you offer mindfulness training, retreats, or corporate wellness?

Yes. Alongside individual care, we offer mindfulness training, group programs, and leadership and corporate wellness offerings, and we periodically host retreats and community workshops. Because these change throughout the year, our events page is the best place to see what is currently open.

What is your approach to culturally responsive care?

We believe that genuine wellbeing holds the mind, body, and spirit together, and that cultural and spiritual dimensions of care matter as much as clinical ones. Our approach is earth-based, inclusive, and grounded in respect for the many backgrounds and traditions of the people and communities we serve. We work alongside indigenous practitioners, cultural teachers, and elders who share their wisdom with us, and we offer our community opportunities to explore these traditions as part of their broader healing journey.

Is Mindful Living Group an inclusive and welcoming place to receive care?

Yes. We are committed to providing care that is safe, respectful, and welcoming to every person, regardless of race, ethnicity, cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, or life experience. We believe in the dignity and worth of every human being, and that belief shapes how we show up in the room. Our team brings a range of backgrounds and lived experiences to this work, and if it would help to be matched with a provider who shares or understands a particular part of your identity or experience, our care coordination team is glad to help find that fit.

Do you offer LGBTQ+ affirming care?

Yes. We are committed to providing care that is affirming, respectful, and safe for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. If it would help to be matched with a provider who has particular experience supporting LGBTQ+ clients, our care coordination team is glad to help find the right fit.

Do you offer care that is responsive to Native Hawaiian and Indigenous communities?

We hold deep respect for the cultures, histories, and traditions of the communities we serve, including Native Hawaiian and other Indigenous peoples. Our approach to care is culturally responsive and inclusive, and we work alongside indigenous practitioners, cultural teachers, and elders who generously share their wisdom with our community. We aim to honor this knowledge with reverence rather than to claim it, and to offer care that respects each person's background and the traditions that matter to them.

Sessions and the Therapeutic Process

What can I expect at my first appointment?

Your first appointment is a conversation. Your provider will take time to understand your history, what is bringing you in, and what you hope to work toward, and together you will begin shaping a care plan that reflects your needs and goals. There is no pressure to have everything figured out beforehand, and nothing you need to commit to before you feel ready.

How should I prepare for my first session?

There is very little you need to do to prepare. It can help to give some thought to what is bringing you in and what you hope to work toward, but you are welcome to arrive exactly as you are. For telehealth appointments, find a private, quiet space with a stable internet connection where you feel comfortable speaking openly.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are typically 55 minutes long, which is a standard length that gives you and your provider room to do meaningful work without feeling rushed.

How often will I have appointments?

This depends on your situation and what you are working toward. Some people meet weekly and others monthly, and we recommend discussing the right rhythm with your provider, which is something you will begin exploring together in your first appointment. As a general guide, meeting at least once a month tends to support steady progress.

How long does therapy usually take?

Therapy can last anywhere from a few months to a few years, depending on your goals and circumstances. We often think of therapy as an ongoing way to support yourself through life, and many people choose to maintain the relationship over time as a steady source of support, shaped around what their goals and lifestyle call for.

Can I choose which provider I work with?

Yes, you are welcome to choose the provider you work with. Our care coordination team will also work alongside you, offering guidance and recommendations based on your needs, since some providers are better suited to certain kinds of support than others. Together, we will look at your goals and help match you with someone well placed to support you.

What if my provider is not the right fit?

It happens more often than people expect that a client and provider are not quite the right match, and even with our best experience and care, fit is never something we can promise. When that happens, we are always glad to explore other providers within our team, and because we work collaboratively, we can coordinate your care and make thoughtful referrals. If your needs fall outside our scope, we also have a trusted network of excellent mental health providers across Hawaiʻi, and we can refer you out with confidence based on what we have come to understand about you.

What's the difference between a therapist, a psychologist, and a psychiatric provider?

A therapist or counselor supports you through talk-based therapy to work with emotions, relationships, and patterns of thinking. A psychologist offers therapy and may also provide psychological assessment. A psychiatric provider focuses on the medical side of mental health, including evaluating and managing medication. Many people work with more than one kind of provider at once, and because our team spans these disciplines, we can coordinate your care across them when that serves you best.

Psychiatry and Medication

Do you provide psychiatric and medication management services?

Yes, we provide psychiatric services and medication management on Maui and Oʻahu, and through telehealth across Hawaiʻi, as part of our integrative approach to care.

Can I see someone for medication only?

Yes, you can see a provider for medication management. We will first set up an initial session to make sure we have a full and current understanding of your health, so that any medication can be reviewed and adjusted thoughtfully around what is going on for you.

Do you prescribe medication for anxiety, depression, or other conditions?

Yes, our psychiatric providers can evaluate and prescribe medication for a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression, when that is an appropriate part of your care. We take an integrative view, considering medication alongside therapy and lifestyle factors rather than in isolation, and any prescribing begins with an initial appointment to understand your full health picture.

Can you prescribe controlled substances?

Yes, specific providers at Mindful Living Group are able to prescribe controlled substances when clinically appropriate. Our care coordination team can help connect you with the right provider for your needs.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Is my information confidential?

Yes, your information is kept confidential. We also maintain a no-recording policy, so sessions are never recorded. We do keep written records of your care, as is standard clinical practice, but your sessions themselves are never captured as audio or video.

Why am I asked not to share personal health information through social media or online forms?

We ask you not to share personal health information through social media or other unsecured online channels because those platforms are not protected under HIPAA, the federal law that safeguards your private health information. Our phone number and intake form on the website are the secure places to share these details. Keeping sensitive information off public or unsecured channels protects your privacy and ensures your information is only seen by the people directly involved in your care.

Who has access to my records within the practice?

Your records are accessible only to the providers and care coordination staff directly involved in your care, in keeping with HIPAA and Hawaiʻi state privacy laws. Your information is never shared outside the practice without your consent, except in the limited circumstances required by law.

Crisis, Safety and Policies

What should I do in a mental health emergency?

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 immediately. If you are in mental health crisis and need support, you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which is available around the clock. These services can help in the moment in ways our practice is not able to outside of scheduled care.

Is the intake form or chatbot monitored in an emergency?

No. Our intake form and chatbot are not monitored in real time and are not intended for urgent or emergency communication. In an emergency, please call 911, or call or text 988 for immediate support if the situation is not life-threatening.

Do you provide letters, assessments, or court documentation?

We are not able to provide letters, assessments, or court documentation. Our focus is on the ongoing therapeutic and clinical care of the people we work with, and these kinds of documents fall outside the scope of what we offer.

What is your policy on respectful and safe care?

We are committed to providing care in an environment that is safe, respectful, and welcoming to every person, regardless of background, identity, or experience. We ask that the same respect be extended to our providers and staff, so that Mindful Living Group remains a place where everyone can feel held and cared for. This commitment to dignity and mutual respect is foundational to how we work.

About the Practice

What makes Mindful Living Group different from a conventional practice?

What sets us apart is our integrative, trauma-informed approach to caring for the whole person. Rather than focusing on symptoms alone, we look at the fuller picture of your life, including lifestyle factors and underlying causes, and we draw on both established and emerging therapies to support you. Our aim is to help you genuinely heal at the root rather than remain caught in the same cycles, which is why we work in a more integrative and collaborative way.

Where can I learn more about your providers?

You can learn more about each of our providers, including their backgrounds, specialties, and the services they offer, on the providers section of our website.
