Sovereign Soul Group Series

A grant‑funded healing series offering free therapeutic groups for Hawai‘i residents who want deeper support with stress, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and the weight of living in today’s world.

Across three small groups, you’ll learn practical nervous system tools, explore your psychospiritual self, and understand how larger systems and events impact your mental health — all in a supportive, online community space.

  • April – July 2026 · Online (HST) · 6 sessions per group
  • No cost for eligible Hawai‘i residents
  • Facilitated by licensed, trauma‑informed clinicians based in Maui and Oʻahu

Why This Series Exists

For too long, healing has been reduced to 50 minutes, one person, four walls, and a diagnosis — a model that often fragments people from their bodies, community, ceremony, and the natural world.

The Sovereign Soul Series is a community‑based, integrated program organized around three core pillars:

  • Embodied, Resilient Self – reconnecting with your body and nervous system as a source of intelligence and resilience.
  • Psychospiritual Self – engaging what is sacred, ancestral, and meaningful, beyond dogma.
  • Sustained Self – understanding how systems, history, and current events shape your mental health, and reclaiming sovereignty.

These are three ways of coming home to the same whole person — connected to body, spirit, and power.

Pillar 1: Embodied, Resilient Self

Somatic Skills for Regulation & Resilience: Discover Your Embodied Self

A 6‑session, skills‑focused group to help you regulate your nervous system, reduce stress, and feel more grounded in your body.

You’ll learn practical, neuroscience‑informed, somatic tools to move out of survival states (fight, flight, freeze) and into more balance, presence, and resilience — in connection with others.

  • Sundays, May 3 – July 11, 2026
  • 12:00 – 1:15 pm HST · Online
  • Facilitator: Dr. Haunani Iao, PsyD (Psychologist)

You will learn to:

  • Recognize your nervous system states (fight, flight, freeze, regulation).
  • Calm anxiety and overwhelm with somatic, evidence‑based techniques.
  • Gently expand your capacity to stay present with difficult experiences.
  • Build body awareness as a pathway to self‑regulation.

Core modalities: somatic therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Pillar 2: Psychospiritual Self

The Psychospiritual Self Group

A 6‑session, therapeutic, introspective group for adults who feel disconnected from themselves or their purpose, are healing from spiritual or religious harm, shedding the colonial soul wound, or seeking a deeper sense of meaning and spiritual connection.

This group supports the integration of mind, body, and spirit through a trauma‑informed, experiential, and existential lens.

  • Wednesdays, April 29 – June 3, 2026
  • 6:00 – 7:15 pm HST · Online
  • Facilitator: Jessica Brazil, LCSW (Founder, Psychospiritual Therapist)

You will learn to:

  • Reconnect with the body as a source of truth.
  • Cultivate compassion, awareness, and inner connection.
  • Create sacred space and personal practice.
  • Engage with something greater using ritual, intention, and prayer for healing.
  • Build capacity for mystery, meaning, and purpose.

This group is inclusive of adults of all races, genders, identities, cultures, and religions; spirituality is approached through universal principles of love, compassion, and truth, not dogma.

Integrated modalities include Jungian/depth‑oriented approaches, existential/meaning‑based therapy, mindfulness‑based approaches, and CBT.

Pillar 3: Sustained Self

Sovereign + Sustained Skills Group

A 6‑session group for adults navigating anxiety, stress, burnout, and the cumulative toll of living and working in systems of oppression and instability.

You’ll explore how macro‑level systems, historical and intergenerational trauma, cultural conditioning, and current events (political upheaval, AI, social media, climate instability, economic precarity) shape your mental health — and build tools to respond from a place of agency and values.

  • Mondays, May 11 – June 15, 2026
  • 6:00 – 7:30 pm HST · Online
  • Facilitator: Natalie Diaz, LSW (Associate Therapist)

You will learn and practice:

  • Mapping the web of oppression and its impact on your daily experience.
  • Recognizing symptoms of stress, anxiety, and burnout — and how they differ.
  • Challenging thought patterns and internalized beliefs shaped by systems and trauma.
  • Strengthening boundaries, choice, and self‑trust for values‑aligned decision‑making.
  • Re‑grounding self‑care as a serious, life‑giving, foundational practice.
  • Cultivating personal agency and experiencing the healing power of community.

Core modalities: Solution‑Focused Brief Therapy, Critical Consciousness Theory, CBT.

Who These Groups Are For

These groups are educational, experiential, and skills‑focused, and work best as a preparation phase to build internal resources for deeper therapeutic work.

They are appropriate for adults seeking skills and group support related to:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression and fatigue
  • Trauma and adjustment challenges
  • Life transitions, grief, and loss

They are not suited for individuals needing a higher level of care (e.g., severe and persistent mental illness, active addiction, history of psychosis or severe personality disorders, recent suicide attempts, current/historical homicidal ideation or violent behavior, or those not yet able to maintain self‑regulation in a group setting).

Why Group Work?

Group work offers something individual therapy cannot:

  • Being witnessed in your process.
  • Recognizing yourself in others.
  • Practicing new ways of relating in real time.
  • Experiencing shared humanity, mutual support, and group cohesion.

There is deep medicine in not being alone with what you carry.
