As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Heike Kholooci focuses on an integrated mind-body perspective on health and illness. She has written in the area of mindfulness and its relationship to psychological wellbeing, and she specifically emphasizes its effects on one’s inner capacities for healing both body and mind. Dr. Kholooci earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego and completed postgraduate training at the Wright Institute Los Angeles. Post-licensure, she received certification in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from the Psychoanalytic Center of California. She is licensed to practice psychology in California and in Hawaii and is a member of the Hawaii Psychological Association.

While she specializes in relationship troubles, traumatic experiences, and difficult life transitions, Dr. Kholooci’s background includes working with a variety of emotional and behavioral issues, including depression and grief, anxiety and stress, addictions and codependency. She provides insight-oriented psychotherapy which explores the underlying issues causing distressing symptoms and even physical pain and focuses on the root of the problem to achieve growth, healing, and lasting change.

Many years ago, recognizing a sense of general unhappiness and being plagued with physical problems, Dr. Kholooci started her own journey into personal growth and self-awareness using a variety of insight-promoting practices. She realized that she did not know herself very well, and that she did not like living in unawareness as it caused her to miss what was most beautiful and meaningful in her life. Using mindfulness practices, she developed new kinds of knowledge and well-being based on the capacity for relaxation, awareness, and insight. Daily mindfulness practice, including yoga, meditation, and silent walks on the beach continue to nourish her life and work.

Working as a therapist is a scientific and creative process and Dr. Kholooci enjoys facilitating and being witness to the personal growth of her clients. She is interested in working with individuals from all walks of life and understands that everyone struggles with the challenges of life and can use some help once in a while to get through a difficult period. She realizes that while challenging times are often overwhelming and stressful, they can also offer opportunities for growth and change.
